When Samuel Mabikke of Uganda won the 2006 Best Journal Award he stunned us by using his winnings to buy a generator and computer to provide training through the Conservation Trust Uganda Youth Centre.  This selfless act inspired New Zealand students to develop a website (www.contrustuganda.org) and to source second hand computers, accessories and a scenar to send to Uganda to enhance the work of the Youth Centre.  DHL New Zealand generously transported half a ton of this gear to Uganda.

The scenar is a hand held medical device that the Russians developed for cosmonauts to take into space to heal most ailments instead of needing a doctor, a pharmacy and a hospital.   The single scenar is proving so successful as a low cost medical device that New Zealand students have got an agreement from makers of the original scenar, RITM (www.ritmscenar.com.au), to gift several more.
